![]() I hope this harem style arrangement continues as it`s too hard to choose between them all! It`s rewarding being able to "claim" these ladies for ourself and offer protection and affection to them all. There is no shortage of beautiful and deadly females to be found and some can be brought into our own little harem. ![]() The progression is well done and the many characters he meets, are well fleshed out - in more ways than one. The MC gains power and learns as he progresses along his perilous journey into becoming something that his enemies and rivals will fear. Reluctant Archon is a fantasy visual novel that borrows from various ancient myths and deities, marrying them with the supernatural world and setting a story of intrigue and betrayal in modern times. That singular piece of work that shows true creativity by the developer. Once in a while, I come across a rare gem among the many VN`s on this site. If it's something that either doesn't matter to you then perhaps you won't care, but there it is. But personally I think the MC's overpoweredness does seriously undermine any real sense of tension in the story, which can be a pretty serious issue. So anyway, in summary I would say this is a pretty solid product, and I debated back and forth over whether to give it 3 stars or 4. Women immediately are struck by how awesome he is and want to sleep with him within days, hours, or even moments after meeting him, check. The gods themselves say he is some sort of special chosen one, check. Smart, charming, physically fit, no real flaws or downsides, check. ![]() Extreme power that no one else can challenge, check. Tragic backstory complete with abusive family and lost love, check. I hesitate to throw the term "Mary Sue" around, and it would be an overstatement to say that the MC is a Mary Sue, but he does check a lot of boxes in that direction. Opinions may vary on that kind of thing, but I personally prefer a lot more of a slow build up. Some of them, like the detective (who is best girl by the way), make sense because he's known them for a while, but others straight up take one look at him and are already throwing themselves at him. To follow up on the idea that the MC is a bit too good, I recognize this is a porn game and sex with loads of attractive women is to some extent the point, but it's also a little silly how many women immediately fall in love with the MC upon meeting him. It's fine the first time or two when the MC is dealing with low level thugs or monsters, but after a while it gets repetitive and ruins any sense of tension or danger in the story, not to mention any sense that the character is growing at all. The villian then says something like "Such amazing power! How can a mere mortal possibly be capable of such a thing?" and then dies or retreats. Villian shows up, goes "Rargh, I'm a powerful Mafia boss/Vampire Lord/Demon/whatever and you're just a mere mortal, I'm going to kill you and you can't stop me." At which point the MC raises his hand, casually does some powerful magic stuff without breaking a sweat, and easily defeats the villian. Mob bosses, vampires, demons, rival sorcerers, even gods, you name it, none of them have been even remotely capable of harming the MC because he is so ludicrously overpowered.Įvery conflict thus far follows a pretty standard formula. Up to the current endpoint of the story nothing has come even remotely close to providing him with a threat. In other words, the MC is extremely overpowered. ![]() I don't mean that he as a person is bad, I just think he's kind of a boring and uninteresting character, which in turn undermines a lot of the story. But on my second playthrough I sort of thought it through and decided I think the main character isn't handled in the best way. If you're just looking for a standard but competently written urban fantasy story that also has a decent quality and quantity of sex scenes then this is gonna be great for you.įor the bad - Really I just wanted to comment on one big thing, and it's maybe not even something everyone would care about. The basic setting/story, while nothing unique (I mean come on, we've all seen a million 'magic is secretly real and behind the scenes monsters, mages, and gods fight battles and exert influence without the non-magical public knowing about it") is solid. Most of the characters are likable or at least not unlikeable. Overall it's somewhere between a 3 and a 4 star as far as I am concerned.įor the good - The art/renders are great. First time through I loved it, but on a second playthrough I noticed a few things I didn't like so much. I've played this through up to it's current content twice now.
